Pastor's Heart
Kierkegaard tells a story of a boy in a swimming pool trying to impress his father
by pretending that he knows how to swim. He splashes and kicks the water with one
foot and yells to his father, "Look! Look! I'm swimming!" He splashes with his arms
and kicks with his legs. The problem was the boy was in the kiddie pool and was laying
on his belly in about three inches of water. This is so much like our Christian life
because we yell out to our heavenly father look at what we are doing, look at our great
faith, our great service to you and all the while we are swimming in the shallow end
of faith. God has called us to get out into the deep waters of faith because that is
where the real swimming begins.
In January we had 13 people go out into the community and share their faith with
people. We all had a great time and God truly blessed our endeavor. We want to invite
you to come and join us this month again as we go to people who need to hear the
gospel of Christ. Won't you come and step into the water, and wade out a little
deeper for Jesus. I remember seeing a sign in the copy room of Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church that read this, "Do you know what most people need to come to church?
Directions." I want to challenge you this month to invite someone to church, make
that extra effort to bring them into the fold. Stop splashing around and start
being the witness God has called you to be.
May God bless you and yours,
Rev. William G. Sewell
